Blurring the line between inside and outside.

Positioned among wetlands, a slow-moving brook, and Lake Michigan, this project sought to fulfill the client’s wish for overflow space for visitors and entertaining, while disturbing as little of the land area as possible. Through the use of natural, local materials, and roof lines that mimic the curves of cedars, this project situated the dwelling in its surrounding environment, blurring the distinction between indoor and outdoor spaces.

We’ve worked with Evening Star Joinery for years, from a major renovation to ongoing maintenance and small projects. The team is great to work with- responsive, communicative, and knowledgeable. They’ve helped to transform our older cottage into a family gathering place that our three boys love to come back to.
